Emily Morgan Amick, a graduate researcher in the College of Engineering, earned first-place honors at both the USF Graduate Student Research Symposium and the statewide Conference for Florida Graduate Schools.
Amick’s research, titled “Counting the Stars: Establishment of the Astrocyte Population in the Auditory Brainstem,” earned her first place in the Physical Sciences and Engineering category at USF’s internal symposium. She then went on to win first place in the Engineering, Technologies, and Computer Science category at the state-level competition, where she competed against top graduate students from institutions including the University of Florida and the University of Miami.
Her research is conducted through USF’s Auditory Development and Connectomics Lab, where she continues to explore the complex architecture of the brain’s auditory pathways.
Amick’s achievements highlight the strength of USF’s graduate research programs and reinforce the university’s commitment to advancing excellence in STEM fields.
